Honda DESIGN – Motorcycle part 1 & 2

Two pleasantly surprising books on Honda motorcycle design. Full of amazing illustrations, design studies and prototypes pictures. On top of that the books provide highly interesting background stories and interviews with the creators of numerous Honda motorcycle classics.

The books are chronologically divided into two parts. The first book (Motorcycle part 1) covers the era from 1957-1984, the second book (Motorcycle part 2) depicts the period from 1985-2013. Both books do great job on presenting Honda’s approach on motorbike design and development. You’ll get to see the story behind the bikes. Oftentimes starting with a design ideas or early sketches and their transfer into clay models, design studies and prototypes. All descriptions are both in Japanese and English.

We bought the books at the museum shop for 4300¥ (about 32€ or 36$), but you should also be able to get them from various online booksellers.
Here are some example pictures taken from the second book, Motorcycle part 2. (for reference only – we  absolutely recommend getting this fantastic books)

On the 1974 Honda GL1000 Prototype displayed in your museum does it have a frame or engine serial number? Were there in fact only 10 or so prototypes made of the GL? Where did they end up?

    Thanks!

      Hello Puyo
the NR750 was a production motorbike (well… kind of), therefore every Honda dealer should be able to give you the color details.
      best regards
